Display All Topics - This setting controls whether the participants should see all the Topics, whether they have been posted or not. If enabled, the unposted topics will be greyed out for the participants, but they can still see them.
Display Unposted Question - This setting controls whether the participants should see the upcoming questions, whether they have been posted or not. If enabled, the questions will be greyed out for the participant and they cannot answer them, but they can still see them.
Display New Posted Questions - By default, a Discussion Board is set to display all questions together at a time once they are posted/opened. In order to display one question at a time in a Discussion Board, go to Settings > Discussion > Navigation Options > Display New Posted Questions > Select the option "Only 1 at a time" from the dropdown. This way, the participant will only see one question at a time, and upon answering, can proceed to the following question by clicking the Next button.
Split New Post Counts - This is by default set to Yes. This setting is what splits the number of new posts between participants, moderator and observers with different speech bubble colours in the left navigation panel; black for participants, blue for moderators, and red for observers.
If this setting is set to No, all new posts will appear as one number for all user types and there will be no speech bubble colour differentiation.
Display Replies as New Posts - This setting controls whether each reply should be displayed as a new post or not. By default it is set to "No".
Allow Observers to Post Replies - This setting allows observers to post private replies to participant answers, which are only visible to Moderator and Project Managers. If this setting is set to "No", the observers will not be able to comment or post replies.
Participants Can Edit Their Replies - This setting controls whether a participant can edit their posted response. By default, it is set to "No". They can post another reply to the same question, but cannot edit their original response that is submitted.
Introduction Message - This field contains the Welcome or the Introduction message that the participant will see when they click on the Discussion tab in the Board.
Questions Unavailable Message - This is the message which will be displayed to the participant if they have answered all the questions and there are no new questions available for them to answer.
