Switching Hosts in Realtime Video Sessions

In your Realtime Video group, you have the ability to take the host seat, leave the host seat, and switch places with another user, giving them the host seat.

If you are in the host seat and want to make someone else a host

1. In the Attendees list - click the 3 dots (hamburger) to the right of the person you want to switch the host seat to and choose the Make Host option.

Note: this will only appear if the moderator/project manager you want to move the host seat to is connected to the activity with their camera or microphone

2. The person you have requested the host seat of will get the following message:



You will see that the invite has been extended:

3.  Once the person asked to take the host seat agrees to become host, you will get a note that the host is moving, after which they will be in the host seat and you will be set up in the observer mosaic of the back room.

If you are a moderator or project manager in the back room and have been requested to take the host seat

1. You will get the following message indicating that you have been requested to be the host.  This appears in the middle of the Main Room.

2. Click the Yes, I want to be Host option to take the host seat.  You will get a note saying the host is switching and be automatically put into the host moderator area in the Main Room.

Leaving the host seat open or requesting to switch places

1. To leave the host seat open or to request someone else take it, click on the Change Conference Host button in the upper right corner of the video call area.

2. A window will appear where you can choose to Leave Host Seat Open, Request someone else become the host, or Cancel and remain in the host seat.

To request someone else become the host, they must be a Project Manager or a Moderator connected in the back room with camera and microphone.

Some important notes

• The project manager or moderator must join the observer mosaic in the backroom with their camera and microphone connected for this functionality to be available.
• Only one host can be in the Main Room at a time, but this feature makes switching hosts more seamless.
• Features to request the host seat are coming in future developments. 
• Concierge, observers, or participants cannot use the host seat switch function. This feature is only available to project managers and moderators.
