This walkthrough is intended to show you how to disable any user (moderators, participants or observers) in a discussion board project.
All actions are performed in the users list of your board found by going to the Users tab and then choosing the Add/Edit Users option from the list that appears.
Using the Disable button
When users are set up in the user list the second last button is a disable button.
Clicking this button will change the users status from Active to Disabled.
Disabled users will be removed from the study and get a notification when they next log in that their user has been disabled.
Setting a time to disable a user
In some cases where you want a user to no longer have access after a certain time, a date disabled can be set on the user within the system.
When you edit or add a new user record, the Disable After field can be filled in to indicate a date/time after which the user is no longer able to join.
Participants are automatically no longer allowed to join an activity after it is closed so for them this field rarely needs to be filled in.
Observers, however are able to continue to log into the study and view the discussion after a project is close and it is when disabling observers that this feature is used.
